The Taboo Resort property has a history that dates back to the 1920s when it opened as the Muskoka Beach Inn. In 1959, a fire and subsequent rebuild led to a new name, the Muskoka Sands Inn. After a major renovation in 2002-2004, it reopened under the name Muskoka Sands. The introduction of a new golf course, the Taboo Golf Course, led to its current title, Taboo Resort, in 2006.
